Xbox Live Card "scratching off code" issue fixed!

That's excellent. I totally burned 1600 points that way too.

Good, I nearly couldn't read my 12 month subscription card a few months ago because of that shit you had to scratch off.

Yeah one of the cards I got recently was the same way, much nicer.

Now if only they'd get rid of those stupid fucking blister packs.... I hate packaging like that.

I know that the cards that contain XBL Marketplace points uses a clever ripoff mechanism. It was easy and safe. No possibility of failure.

It was like opening a box of cereal. But on a card.

They are SUCH a bitch. So hard to get into and sometimes even cut you

.

The one I bought last Friday was some sort of strip to rip off the card. I was happy that got fixed since I have also lost a few points.

get a box knife, blister packs are stupid easy to open :lol

Yeah, a few times those cases have fucked my hands up.

Huh. I just bought a points card at Wal-Mart last week and it still had the scratch strip. It wasn't in a blister pack or anything, just the bare card hanging on the shelf.

Good to hear. Last year scratched the numbers off a point card and was incredibly pissed but determined to redeem it so I spent about half an hour entering combinations of the scratched off digits/letters ( there were 2-3 ) until it worked. What a pain.

Man, I can't believe this really happens to people. :lol

Now for them to fix that fucking metallic plastic.

Too fucking right.

These things are a nightmare, resulting in many sharp edges and much cussing on my part.

I dont get the scratching problem, but.... the fucking blister packs are so lame to open.

Seriously.

They're supposed to stop theft, but I've seen plenty of instances of people just exacto-knifing the card right out. (Well, I've never seen it happen, but I've seen card-less shells on the shelves)

Put the cards in a god-damn locked cabinet if you want security.

yeah, there was a solution for plastic since forever.

actually a good pair of scissors is even easier to open with.

I know a bunch of us have accidently scratched too hard on those Xbox Live cards. I lost 1600 points last year by scratching too hard, and MS doesn't help you in these situations.

Not true. Did this once, called MS and they gave me a referral number to take back to the store with the card. Swapped, no hassle.

Still, glad to see they got rid of the scratching part.

No, not NOT TRUE. They didn't help me, they haven't helped tons of people. I'm glad they helped you though, that's nice, and I am glad this is fixed.

Really?! Wow. I only said this due to a friend having the same issue down the road, and when I told him what to do, it worked for him no problem as well.

Mind you, after having dealt with MS customer service a few times for other things, I guess I shouldn't really be surprised. I retract my statement.

Strange thing is just a few weeks ago I purchased a 1600 point card and it's of totally new design, branded both "games for windows" and "xbox 360". Instead of the horrible scratch off material there is a small piece of cardboard you peel away which I found to be strangely awesome.

I have seen point cards at Wal Mart that don't have the blister packs. I still don't know what the real purpose of the huge blister packs are except maybe theft prevention??

That is the only reason why they exist.

Well, the Walmart cards are unique (Target uses them too IIRC) in that they're activated at the register.

But yeah, to the OP this is great news. I nearly burned a 4000 point card this way, it's easy to do if you use pretty much anything but a dull coin to scratch the card with. I say "nearly" burned, because the Circuit City dude felt sorry for me and gave me another one. I used a butter knife, and the grey stuff and the top layer of card plastic came off in one swipe. Talk about a bummer.

Wow blister packs huh

here it's just a dvd case with a card in it

i dont see how anyone can be stupid enough to scratch too hard, just use any coin, and rub it gently, surely thats not too hard -_-

:lol

Wait, what. You guys get 1600 point cards?? Wow, we only get 1500 point cards, meaning we can't even buy 2x800 point games with 1 card.

Seriously.

I loved how the WoW cards were kept in cardboard boxes. I didn't pay for the game for a year

They've been shying away from the scratching for a little while now. They also have the ones where they are covered with a thing piece of cardboard over the code that you peel off. They seem to mostly be in bundles though.

Yeah, no one has ever had an issue having them returned. All Microsoft does is give you a referral number and you go back to the store to get another one. So easy. I've seen at least 20 people come back and have it replaced with no issues.

Wait...you guys open them with your hands instead of using scissors? lol wtf...

About damn time! Though MS is moving way too slow to fix issues such as this. Speaking of which... when do we get proper D-Pads?
