Xbox game pass to play games on pc without an xbox one?

So, I have a question about the xbox Game pass. I have a windows 10 pc, but not an xbox one. I was going to order Sea of thieves on the microsoft store (on windows 10/pc), but I saw that the store was recommending to buy instead the xbox game pass. So my question is: if I buy the game pass from pc, can I then play sea of thieves and state of decay 2 (when they will be released) on my pc even without owning an xbox one? Can I play the Microsoft exclusives (play anywhere) without using at all an xbox one? Can i activate them on my pc, without the need of an xbox one?

I think it can only be used on Xbox One

Then the microsoft store is highly misleading. i was going to preorder sea of thieves, but there was a prompt on the page saying I could play it with this game pass. I thought since it's a "play anywhere" title, I could install on my pc "play anywhere" titles like gears of war 4 and eventually sea of thieves and state of decay 2 in the future just by having a game pass even without an xbox.

highly misleading if that is not the case. Even on the gears of war 4, store page (on my windows 10 pc/windows store) it's saying it's free with game pass, but it's not really clear.

Can't find an official explanation on microsoft website if play anywhere title can be played for free if I buy a game pass without an xbox one and if they can be activated without a console.

Thanks, this is exactly what I was looking for. So it seems I was right. So from what I understand "play anywhere" titles that are also present in the xbox game pass, can be downloaded on my pc. This seems a great deal.

I was just going buy what it says on their support website

Can I use Xbox Game Pass on my Windows 10 PC?Xbox Game Pass can only be used on Xbox One consoles.

Although it does say right underneath it.

Where is Xbox Game Pass located on the Xbox App?Xbox Game Pass can be accessed from the Microsoft Store section of the Xbox App on Windows 10 PCs.

But then it only highlights it being available on XboxOne on the store when you go to purchase the subscription

Which is weird because it is linking me to this Xbox Game pass page from the Gears of War 4 page on the PC Microsoft Store

So that's some nice mixed messaging going on Microsoft lol

You can use Gamepass on PC. I have used as well as others, currently its limited to XPA titles like Gears of War4, Sea of Thieves etc.

That would be because you are on PC where you can buy games for your xbox, similar to the playstation store on pc. In this case Gears of War 4 is XPA meaning you can play on PC.

Not a lot of games are XPA on gamepass currently as a lot of em are 360 games so if anything they are saving you by not misleading you by making you think you get access to 170+ games for your pc when in reality its like 10 currently

Could be better communicated on the PC side, bit sloppy on their part but then I guess that's just the Microsoft Store in a nutshell on PC.

Well for one thing change

Can I use Xbox Game Pass on my Windows 10 PC? Xbox Game Pass can be used on Xbox One consoles and PC* *Select titles only

Put a little Select PC titles logo beside the Xbox One logo on the page where you go to buy the gamepass.

From what I understood: If you get Xbox Game Pass and "buy" Sea of Thieves for Xbox, you get access to the PC version since it's Play Anywhere.

Edit: I have Game Pass and I never redeemed Gears of War 4 on my Xbox. I went to the Windows 10 store and I have the option to install it.

Here is my own experience, I tried the 14 day trial on the PC and was able to play Gears of War 4. It was clunky as hell to download the game in the beginning because it kept wanting me to buy it even though it was part of Game Pass. After a few tries it finally allowed me to download the game. The real value of Game Pass is on Xbox but Sea of Thieves should work on the pc.

I might buy a month of this, burn through Gears 4 in a night or two with a buddy and play SoT for a month.

My dashboard has game pass at half price for the next 3 days, if that's available to you as well you might as well sign up now?

But there's also a 14 day trial, so if all you want is Gears 4 and SoT you could just wait and use your trial to play those two.

Seems like MS is clearing up the messaging here.

Can I use Xbox Game Pass on my Windows 10 PC? Xbox Game Pass is an Xbox One, Xbox Play Anywhere, and Xbox 360 backwards compatibility game subscription for Xbox One. Xbox Game Pass currently features a select number of Xbox Play Anywhere games that is continually increasing. The latest list of Xbox Play Anywhere titles can be viewed at xbox.com/gamepass

So, Game Pass just added Graveyard Keeper apparently.

That's pretty cool. This game looks great.

If GP keeps adding indie titles like this, I'll subscribe for sure because I probably spend at least $50 a month on titles like this.

I signed up for 1 month Xbox game pass, you get a free month if you set subscribe by setting auto payment renew on signup too, meaning you get 2 month free to play with, you don't need an Xbox to play the Windows 10 games and Play Anywhere titles it seems, but there are only a dozen games for Windows on there.

I signed up to try State of Decay 2 here and grabbed Halo Wars definitive edition too, both work fine, not tried Sea of Thieves yet, there's a couple of Forza which look worth a try too.
