What a Monopoly board would look like if it was set in Bedfordshire

Since the game of Monopoly was developed nearly 90 years ago, there has been over 300 different versions go on sale.

From games based on popular TV shows and football teams, to a special 'cheaters' edition and electronic banking versions where players use credit cards transactions rather than cash, there are endless incarnations of the popular property board game.

But so far the game's makers have overlooked Bedfordshire. Until now.

We have collated property information from each of the Bedfordshire towns to give you an idea as to what a Bedfordshire edition would look like if Hasbro decided to publish tomorrow.

Like the real Monopoly, the colour of each town relates to how expensive that area is, with brown the cheapest and dark blue the most expensive.

Kempston

Just outside of Bedford, Kempston is derived from the ancient English for "bend or curve", in reference to the River Great Ouse flowing through the town.

Properties in Kempston had an overall average price of £293,207 over the last year.

Overall, sold prices in Kempston over the last year were 9% up on the previous year and 5% up on the 2018 peak of £280,220.

Dunstable

Home to the Dunstable Downs and a 12th century priory, Dunstable had an overall average price of £293,711 over the last year.

Overall, sold prices in Dunstable over the last year were 9% up on the previous year and 4% up on the 2018 peak of £282,426.

Light blue

Luton

The biggest town in the county by some margin, and home to London Luton Airport, Luton Hoo and Luton Town FC, properties in Luton had an overall average price of £294,209 over the last year.

Overall, sold prices in Luton over the last year were 5% up on the previous year and 12% up on the 2019 peak of £261,529.

Arlesey

Formerly known as a the Royal Manor of Arleseybury, properties in Arlesey had an overall average price of £305,810 over the last year.

Overall, sold prices in Arlesey over the last year were similar to the previous year and 1% up on the 2019 peak of £301,369.

Pink

Biggleswade

A town founded by Anglo Saxons and the site where a gold Anglo-Saxon coin was discovered in the River Ivel which went on to be bought by the British Museum, properties in Biggleswade had an overall average price of £324,579 over the last year.

Overall, sold prices in Biggleswade over the last year were 3% up on the previous year and 2% up on the 2018 peak of £318,006.

Leighton Buzzard

A market town and with a train connection that runs to Birmingham in just over and hour, properties in Leighton Buzzard had overall average price of £329,252 over the last year.

Overall, sold prices in Leighton Buzzard over the last year were similar to the previous year and 5% up on the 2019 peak of £313,462.

Orange

Cranfield

On the border with Milton Keynes and Buckinghamshire and home to Cranfield University, Cranfield had an overall average price of £342,986 over the last year.

Overall, sold prices in Cranfield over the last year were 4% down on the previous year and 3% down on the 2019 peak of £352,526.

Potton

Known as 'Potone' in the Domesday Book and home to Potton Manor until it was demolished in the 1980s, properties in the village outside Sandy had an overall average price of £350,917 over the last year.

Overall, sold prices in Potton over the last year were similar to the previous year and 14% down on the 2019 peak of £407,245.

Red

Shefford

The town that lends its name to a town in Canada 3,000 miles away, properties in Shefford in Bedfordshire had an overall average price of £368,361 over the last year.

Overall, sold prices in Shefford over the last year were 11% up on the previous year and 6% up on the 2017 peak of £347,186.

Henlow

Home to Champney's Spa and the greyhound track, properties in Henlow had an overall average price of £374,267 over the last year.

Overall, sold prices in Henlow over the last year were 7% up on the previous year and 3% up on the 2017 peak of £364,336.

Yellow

Barton-Le-Clay

Home to Barton Springs Nature Reserve and located outside of Luton, properties in Barton-Le-Clay had an overall average price of £397,620 over the last year.

Overall, sold prices in Barton-Le-Clay over the last year were 8% up on the previous year and 9% up on the 2016 peak of £364,640.

Ampthill

Home to the Ampthill Rugby Club, who play in the second tier of the English rugby pyramid, properties in Ampthill had an overall average price of £397,678 over the last year.

Overall, sold prices in Ampthill over the last year were 3% up on the previous year and 2% down on the 2019 peak of £406,771.

Green

Toddington

Formerly home to Toddington Castle, properties in Toddington had an overall average price of £400,137 over the last year.

Overall, sold prices in Toddington over the last year were 15% up on the previous year and 2% up on the 2019 peak of £390,714.

Stotfold

On the border from Letchworth Garden City and Hertfordshire, properties in Stotfold had an overall average price of £404,407 over the last year.

Overall, sold prices in Stotfold over the last year were 4% up on the previous year and 3% up on the 2019 peak of £392,206.

Dark blue

Harlington

Just outside Luton and home to Harlington Upper School and a stop on the Bedford-Brighton line, properties in Harlington had an overall average price of £425,691 over the last year.

Overall, sold prices in Harlington over the last year were 7% up on the previous year and 7% up on the 2018 peak of £397,508.

Bromham

Home to the Bromham Mill Duck Race and just outside of Bedford, properties in Bromham had an overall average price of £487,447 over the last year.

Overall, sold prices in Bromham over the last year were 27% up on the previous year and 21% up on the 2017 peak of £402,555.
